Makeup Geek – Shadow Swatches

Hello Everybody!

We have made it halfway through the week! I don’t know about you guys but this week has been going by so slowlyyyyyy.  So I thought to celebrate I would jump on here and give you a peak at my makeup geek shadow collection and let you know some of my all time favorite shades!

Makeup geek shadows are amazing! They are such a great value and are in all honesty probably my favorite eyeshadow formula. I also love that they come as single eyeshadows in just the pan because it makes them really mobile and perfect for travel. I have my large z-palette (as you’ll see) that I keep at home, but then I also have a smaller one that fits about 9 shadows that is perfect to take on the go!

The shadows are $6 each, which compared to say a $10 MAC shadow is a great price for what I would say is a better formula. They also have literally EVERY shade you could think of – so what more could you want!

Kylie Lip Kit – Review and Swatches

Hello Everybody!

It has been a LONG time since I posted – things have gotten rather busy at work – but these lip kits have inspired me to get back to it.

I’ll be honest, I was a little skeptical on whether or not these would live up to the hype, but I have an obsession with liquid lipsticks, soooo I had to try them.

I know a lot of people think liquid lipsticks are extremely drying – so just as a disclaimer I don’t mind the drying aspect of liquid lipsticks in general. I am more of a if it stays on my lips for as long as possible I am all for it.

Now lets get down to the details. The lip kits come with both the lip liner and the liquid lipstick for $29, which ultimately is actually not a bad price compared to some other liquid lipsticks on the market (should we take a sip of wine every time I say liquid lipstick?).

ColourPop Shadow Collection – Review & Swatches

Hi Everybody!

I have been really loving my ColourPop Super Shock Shadow’s recently and I thought I would share my collection with you! I am a huuuge fan of these shadows. The formula is so unique – sort of a mousey cream texture. I think they are the perfect way to add a pop of shimmer to any eye look. As you’ll see in my collection, I am a big fan of their neutral metallic/pearlized finishes.

Nars Audacious Lipstick – Review and Swatches

Hey Everybody!

Happy Saturday :).

Today I wanted to go through some swatches of my fave lipstick of all time – the Nars Audacious Lipstick. I know these are hyped up everywhere but let me tell you, they are worth the hype and worth every penny. TRUST ME. If I were to recommend any one single lipstick this would be it – I personally would save my money and instead of buying two MAC lipsticks invest in one of these.

Nars Audacious Lipsticks - Raquel, Anna, Brigitte, Juliette, Catherine & Anita

They are insanely pigmented, super creamy, and wear incredibly. I have a real problem with lipsticks fading on me and kinda beading up on my lips throughout the day. I also am awful at re-applying, so halfway through the day I tend to just look a little crazy. THESE saved my life, they sort of stain your lips so as you wear them throughout the day they never get splotchy or uneven. I highly recommend trying one.

Here are some close ups of the shades I own (please excuse my grown out gel polish!):

Raquel:

Raquel
Raquel

Raquel is the most true nude shade that I own. I think it is such a pretty color, but may not work as well with darker skin tones – it may end up coming off a little “dead body” looking. I find that if I put a little pink liner as a base it is the perfect pinky beige for everyday wear.

Anita:

Anita
Anita

Anita is my personal fave. It is a great dusty rose color that is one of those “your lips but better” type shades. I love how this wears and how it looks with any makeup look I may have on. I actually just purchased this one for a second time – that’s how much I love it.

Anna:

Anna
Anna

Anna is described as a smokey rose – but the best way I can describe it is a purpley mauve. This is very Kylie Jenner-esk and is such a pretty color for everyday in the fall/winter time. Again the way that these wear on your lips is so amazing. I can put this on in the morning and at 5pm my lips still have even color, without reapplying once.

Brigitte:

Brigitte
Brigitte

Brigitte is a great nude rose. I think if I were going to recommend one it would be this one because of how versatile it is. It would look great on any skin tone because it is just that perfect everyday deeper pink. (This one is my Mom’s personal fave).

Juliette:

Juliette
Juliette

I bought Juliette for the spring and summer time because I have been obsessed with pinky – coral shades. I think this one is great because it is not super orangey. It has the perfect balance for everyday wear – yet you can play it up and make it more fun depending on the other makeup you pair it with. I think this is prob my second fave color!

Catherine:

Catherine
Catherine

I got Catherine online before seeing it in person – so it is a little more orangey than I would typically go for. I had envisioned more of a Juliette when buying this one; however, the color is still really pretty and great for summertime. It is described as a sunny guava, but I would say it leans more orange than that. It is a little more of a true coral color as you can see in the swatches below.

Here are some swatches of the shades that I have! The first photo was taken in the shade and shows more of the true color of each lipstick. The second photo was taken in the sun and you can really see how creamy and pigmented they are.

Just FYI – I ran each lipstick down my arm ONE time – that just tells you how crazy pigmented these are.

I hope you guys liked this post! Let me know your fave shades or ones you are dying to try! I know I personally also really want to try Lana (a vivid orange red).

Urban Decay – Naked Smoky

Hi Everyone!

I just got my hands on the new Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette. The fourth edition of the Naked palettes. I own the original Naked palette but am super excited to add this one to my collection!

Urban Decay – Naked Smoky

First of all, we all know how incredible these shadows are. The formula is long lasting, creamy, and highly pigmented. The Naked Smoky palette is no exception. It comes with the standard 12 shadows. The first four shadows are warm bronzes tons with sparkle, the second four are cooler greys and blacks with more of a satin finish, and lastly there are four mattes.

The palette has updated packaging with a magnetic closure and is extremely sturdy. My personal favorite color is Armor, an extremely unique silver taupe color that almost has deep brown shimmers in it – sooo pretty!

Overall – I think Urban Decay hits it out of the park again with this palette. I love the variety of colors and think this is perfect to create tons of different combos- from a daytime neutral look to a sultry night out dramatic look. The possibilities are endless.

You can find this palette online and in stores now! If you’re shopping online don’t forget to use ebates to get some cash back! Check it out here.

Lipstick of the Moment : Urban Decay Sheer Revolution

Hey Everybody,

As it is summertime now, I have been loving moisturizing lipsticks for everyday wear. I recently fell in love with this lipstick that I have actually had in my collection for a while now. I own a couple shades of the Urban Decay Sheer Revolution lipstick and I will say they are all amazing. They are the perfect lipstick for a wash of color and you can still build them up for a bolder look. The shade I am loving right now – and have practically worn every day this past month is Sheer Streak. It is described as a sheer coral – pink and I think it is the perfect shade for summer.

The formula is sheer, with a shiny finish and the lipstick applies extremely creamy and buttery. It has oils and antioxidants in addition to shea butter and jojoba to keep your lips hydrated and naturally plump. I love how moisturizing the formula is especially as I tend to get very dry lips when I am out in the sun. I highly recommend trying out one of the sheer revolution lipsticks! The packaging is beautiful and the product inside is worth every penny.

ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip – Swatches and Initial Review

ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip - Review and Swatches!
ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip – Review and Swatches!

I was lucky enough to get my hands on some of the ColourPop Ultra Matte Lipsticks before they sold out earlier this month. I was super excited because I have been obsessed with liquid lipsticks recently and for $6 how can you go wrong. I had heard a lot of good things and thought it was the perfect way to try out some shades I wouldn’t typically wear or want to splurge on!.

I ended up buying 6 shades as pictured below – Donut, First Base, Mars, Ouiji, Creeper, and Succulent.

ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip - Donut

This shade is described as a “Bright Peach” I think it lives up to the name. It is a really wearable yet fun coral shade – ideal for summer!

ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip - 1st Base
ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip – 1st Base

This shade is a mid-tone true pink. This shade is a great everyday pink to add a pop to your look. I think it would suit all skin tones and is simply pretty.

ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip - Mars
ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip – Mars

Mars is a red fuchsia color that is BEAUTIFUL for the summer time. I can’t wait to wear it to a concert or pool party in the near future. It is so fun and bright – something I typically wouldn’t wear but I like the idea of becoming more adventurous!

ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip - Ouiji
ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip – Ouiji

Ouiji is a bright coral red and might just be my favorite. I have been obsessssssed with coral lips this summer. I think shades with the hint of orange really helps bring out my blue eyes. This coral is the perfect pinky/red coral that will go with virtually any look you can image!

ColourPop Ultra Matte Lips - Succulent
ColourPop Ultra Matte Lips – Succulent

This electric neon orange red is the perfect take on a red lip for summer. It is bright and fun adding a refreshing touch to any look. I personally plan to wear this later this summer for the Taylor Swift concert! (that red lip thing ya know). It goes on the lips so smoothly with intense pigmentation – I can’t wait to bust this out!

ColourPop Ultra Matte Lips - Creeper
ColourPop Ultra Matte Lips – Creeper

Creeper is a true classic blue red – the perfect red lip color. I know I will be getting a ton of use out of this one around the holidays! I think it will be beautiful with some winged liner.

Overview / Review:

I think these liquid lipsticks are great for the price. In my opinion they are the perfect way to try out a bold new lip without spending an arm and a leg on a lipstick you may only wear twice. Overall, I do think the formula can be a little drying – as with most liquid lipsticks. They dry to a true “ultra matte” finish and DO NOT move. After swatching them out on my arm, the swatches were literally still visible three days later (and yes I shower). I recommend conditioning and exfoliating your lips before use for the best application. I also own a couple of the Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipsticks, a couple of the Sephora brand liquid lipsticks and some of the Kat Von D – I think for $6 these hold their own. As mentioned, they are drying, more so than some of the other formulas mentioned (although ABH are more drying in my opinion). They are extremely pigmented and go on the lips really smoothly when applying. I do find them a little less long wearing than the Kat Von D version but for 1/4th the price I think they are worth trying!  FYI – these are currently sold out on the ColourPop website but are due to be back in stock in August 🙂

Too Faced: Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette – Review and Swatches

I recently purchased the semi-sweet chocolate bar palette mainly because I fell in love with the packaging and smell! Lawd knows I didn’t need anymore eye shadow palettes.

So now the question is, does this palette live up to the hype? I’ll be honest and say that I have no experience with the first chocolate bar palette so I can’t compare the two, but I do think this was a great purchase. I tend to wear neutral shadows everyday – so this palette gets a lot of use.

IMG_7723
Too Faced Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette

For me the standout stars are the second and third rows of the palette. The first row comes out a little chalky although oddly I think this makes the shadows easier to blend. It might just be a difference in formula between the matte and shimmery shadow formulas because I find the shimmery shades extremely buttery. (You can kinda see this in the swatches below)

chocolate bar pt 1
Swatches from Left to Right: Licorice, Coconut Creme, Nougat, Truffled, Hot Fudge, Cocoa Chili, Pink Sugar, Puddin’

My favorite and most used shades are “Caramel”, “Bon Bon”, and “Butter Pecan.” I love putting Butter Pecan all over the lid and darkening it up with the Bon Bon shade to give my lid a little warmth. I find I can make a lot of unique looks just using this palette which to me makes it worth the money.

Swatches Left to Right: Blueberry Swirl, Peanut Butter, Frosting, Rum Raisin, Mousse, Caramel, Bon Bon, Butter Pecan
Swatches Left to Right: Blueberry Swirl, Peanut Butter, Frosting, Rum Raisin, Mousse, Caramel, Bon Bon, Butter Pecan

Overview:

Pros: The packaging is sturdy and the variety of neutrals colors make it great for travel as I can create a lot of looks. The shimmery shades very buttery and great for throwing all over the lid. The matte shades are really blendable and look great layered. I think the palette is great because of the mixture of matte and shimmery shades.

Cons: A couple of the shades can come off a little chalky. I also think the shadows could be slightly more pigmented. Although, I will say they layer very well so its pretty easy to get the color where you want.

Overall, I think this is a great palette and I would purchase again.
